The plant should be level with the surrounding soil. Make sure to loosen the potting soil and roots around the root ball once you’ve placed it in the hole. Clay or sandy soils should be amended with organic matter. After planting, add 1-3 inches thick of mulch, but avoid getting too close to the stem.
